Smart-fluids develops and proposes devices based
on the properties of new
liquid materials
featuring simultaneously magnetic properties and high electrical
conductivity. This novel class of fluids appears as
twice more "intelligent" as compared to standard ferrofluids.
Exploiting the properties of these fluids is the start point opening
towards a wide field of applications.
This project originates from the French Laboratory "LI2C" (Liquides
Ioniques et Interfaces Chargées, UMR CNRS - UPMC - ESPCI *).
This Lab was able to associate multiple and complementary competencies
among the researchers together with a great expertise in the synthesis
and in the knowledge of magnetic fluids (ferrofluids). A specific study
was started several years ago by a team of researchers of the Lab,
leading to a different mode in the elaboration of magnetic and
conducting fluids by introducing new concepts in this synthesis.
Following this approach, the fluids produced under theses specific
conditions show unprecedented characteristics as compared to the
materials issued from other equips working in such a field during the
last decades (NASA, General Electric, academic research).
